Biography

Born in Israel and based out of Portland, Oregon, Amir Avsker is a multi-talented musician -  pianist, violinist, violist, composer, and conductor. A much sought-after performer, accompanist, composer, and arranger Amir Avsker performs as a soloist, a chamber musician, and an orchestra player on national and international stages. He is a participant in Fear No Music's Young Composers Project and his compositions have been performed numerous times by the Metropolitan Youth Symphony in Portland, faculty members of Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music, as well as other ensembles. 

Amir Avsker has held several leadership positions in the Metropolitan Youth Symphony and in the summer of 2024 he conducted the orchestra during their tour in Spain and Portugal, as well as performing his own composition in Arlen Schnitzer Hall in Portland.  .

Amir Avsker was nominated the 2023 Young Artist in Residence of All Classical Portland radio. His awards include, among others, winner of the 2023 Metropolitan Youth Symphony Concerto Competition (Piano), the 2023 Cognizart Young Artists Debut! Competition (Piano) and the 2019 Oregon Music Education Association Composition Competition (middle school division). He also performed in numerous master classes with leading Piano, Violin and composition masters.

Avsker is a co-founder and musical director of the Pacific Rose Ensemble, a youth chamber ensemble, which performs music from the standard repertoire as well as works by young composers with limited outreach.

An avid linguist, Avsker speaks eight languages (Hebrew, English, German, Italian, Spanish, French, Russian, and Portuguese). He enjoys opera and has developed an extensive knowledge of the genre and its history.
